The exciting sequel to Stuck in the Game

Noah has survived his time trapped in the virtual reality of the Dream State game and his body is on the road to recovery. His mind, however, cannot put the past behind him, knowing the company that ruined his life has escaped justice. With the evidence he needs to convict them held on a Transfer Orb hidden in the Dream State, Noah returns to help his friends reclaim it. However, someone has already beaten him to the punch.

FranktheTank is a newbie. When he happens across the Transfer Orb, he sees it as a big payday, something to boost his skills to the next level. As he tries to sell it off to the highest bidder, he begins to realize that something more than his avatar’s status is at stake.

In order to push the evidence to the public, Noah and his allies race to find Frank before Wona does. Empowered by new weapons and magic, Noah and his friends fight through dungeons, monsters, and dragon nests, though only Noah knows what lengths Wona will resort to in order to keep its good name clean and its dark past a secret.

Can Noah fight the pull of the game to protect Wona’s victims?

“There's been such a glut of subpar LitRPG lately that it was nice to read something from someone who actually knows how to write. Five stars.” —Matt Dinniman, author of Dominion of Blades

"A brilliant work of fantasy that will appeal to everyone's inner gamer. If you've played any sort of RPG, I cannot recommend this book enough." —Zachariah Dracoulis, author of Fragged, Kylia’s Story, and Code Jumper

I was thrilled to find out that Back in the Game had released so soon after the first in the series and immediately picked it up. Once again Noah it is thrown into turmoil as his virtual world changes around him and the lines between good and evil are blurred.

I don't want to spoil anything is there are plenty of good twists and turns the plot really broadens from the first. The pacing is great and follows a trail escalating powers and escalating tension, it keeped me gripped throughout.

Like stuck in the game, Back in the Game really thrives and it's action and environments always bright Vivid and somehow both nostalgic and fresh. The expansion to steampunk settings again broadens the story. The fights are a perfect example of how much fun the litrpg genre can be big bombastic and exciting. With something new around ecery corner.

Highly recommended and I hope for a third!

Back in the Game Dream State Saga Book 2 eBook Christopher Keene Reviews

I did not stop reading, so there were no major issues with the story flow. I gave the first one 4 stars and could not justify giving this one the same.

In my opinion, the MC's actions are not believable enough. It is like the framework was in place for this big plot twist but the story lacked the conviction it needed to actually pull it off. I just did not have enough motivation to believe the MC would act the way he did. You are not blindsided by it, so it is not a random plot twist, but it is also hard to believe it too. That seems a little vague because I did not want to give any spoilers, but maybe those who read it will understand.

I will definitely read the next one to see what happens, but if the MC continues to be a dummy I probably will not finish it.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Stuck in the Game, and I think that Back in the Game is a solid continuation of the story. The author does some really great stuff with the setting, focusing less on explaining the mechanics of the game (which you should already know from the first book) and more just letting the game setting affect the way things play out in the story. There are aspects of the story that just couldn’t work in any other setting, and there are also some really neat ideas and nuances that are developed here that I liked a lot–the way that leveling, items, and spells affect the battles or the wide variety of locations, for instance. That said, the type of story presented here is actually pretty different from that of the first book; Stuck in the Game is more of a survival story, whereas Back in the Game is much more revenge-focused. It works, and I enjoyed the plot, but I think I personally like the story-type of Stuck in the Game a bit better–but that’s just me. Also, not to give out too many spoilers, but I felt very personally betrayed by one character in the story . . . and I’m intrigued to see how that betrayal will end up playing out in future volumes. I did enjoy getting a variety of character perspectives throughout the book; they were balanced out quite well and provided some interesting insight into the various players. Overall I think Back in the Game would be an enjoyable read for anyone interested in LitRPG stories, light novels, video games, or cyberpunk/fantasy/sci-fi stories in general.

NOTE I received a free review copy of Back in the Game from the author in exchange for an unbiased review, which in no way affects the contents of this review.
If you like the first book in the series, Stuck in the Game, you’ll like this one. The story jumps right into the dream game world after a very brief explanation about what happened at the end of the last book and up to the moment the main character is broken out of a mental institute.

The main character upgrades his abilities a bit as he and his friends hunt down the orb that has all the video files that can prove that the game creators are bad people and hopefully get them arrested.

The biggest improvement over book 1 is how quick the story gets into the game world. Even through the beginning of the story feels like an extension of book 1, it quickly becomes its own entity. New weapons and lands are revealed some with a steampunk or gunpowder themes.
There are some pretty decent plot twists that will be controversial to some people but they definitely bump the story above book 1.
7 out of 10.
I lost interest in this series about halfway through this book. The motivations and mood swings of the characters just didn't make sense and I just didn't care what happened next.
This was a great book with really cool features around and great descriptions about these details, plus it has a very interesting plot line and I recommend to many young teens.
I liked both books very well. A view of how a simulation could interact with daily life. Easy to read.
It was a great read. Very well polished with none of the grammar errors that draw you out of the immersion. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to more from the author.
